After two years of over-the-top fundraising, we may be heading into hard times. Are you ready?
The Agitator has some great advice at 7 Fundraising Tips for Surviving the Apocalypse of 2022:
- Don’t Whine. It's rough, but the best way to handle it is to face it directly.
- Re-Project and Take it Upstairs. Denial can only make it worse.
- Advance the timetable for your year-end campaigns. Get in front of donors with strong, reality-based asks NOW. Don't worry about "stealing" donations from year-end.
- Resist Your Natural Instincts. Hiding under the blankets may be your natural instinct. It's the worst possible strategy for hard times.
- Engage your core donors as you never have before. Donors want to make a difference. Connect often and with relevance, and they'll reward you.
- Do not lose the courage of your convictions. Donors are not going to fault you for needing help. Some might need to give less or stop giving, but you are not going to face a mass uprising of angry donors if you tell them you need their help in this hard time.
- Don’t expect that the “good old days” will ever return. Change is constant.
